§ 11-17. Obstruction of justice.
(a)
Intent. It is the intent of this section to prohibit conduct that would impede, hinder, delay, frustrate or prevent officers of the City of Coral Springs from performing lawful duties protecting the health, safety and welfare of the citizenry.
(b)
Obstruction by false swearing. It shall be unlawful to make or cause to be made any statement of any kind on any official or public record of the City of Coral Springs when such statement is known to be untrue in whole or part and is sworn as true.
(c)
Obstruction by false information. It shall be unlawful to do any act or take any course of conduct that involves untrue or misleading information which is intended to obstruct, resist, hinder, delay, impede, frustrate, or prevent a law enforcement officer while that office is acting in an official capacity and under lawful authority, whether such intent is effected or not.
(d)
Obstruction by aggravated false statements. It shall be unlawful to initiate information or make any reports with the intent to falsely incriminate an innocent person or persons.
(e)
Obstruction of legal process. It shall be unlawful to knowingly and willfully obstruct, resist or otherwise oppose any law enforcement officer of the City of Coral Springs in the serving, executing or attempt to serve or execute any legal writ or process whatsoever, whether such intent is effected or not.
(f)
Obstruction of K-9 unit. It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly batter, disable, injure, kill, torture or torment any dog used by the police department in an official capacity while in the performance of the functions or duties of the department, or to interfere with or obstruct any dog while the dog is being employed by the police department in any authorized act within the department's official capacity.
(g)
Penalty. Any violation of this section shall be deemed an offense against the City of Coral Springs and upon conviction in a court of competent jurisdiction shall be punished by a fine not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00), or imprisonment not to exceed thirty (30) days, or any combination thereof.
