§ 6-14. Political activities of city employees while on duty.

  • (a)

    Intent. It is the intent of the City of Coral Springs to provide a working environment free of political influence and pressure.

    (b)

    Definitions.

    (1)

    Political activity: Any effort made on behalf of a candidate for a seat on the Coral Springs City Commission.

    (2)

    Employee: Any regular, part-time, or temporary full-time person employed by the City of Coral Springs.

    (3)

    On duty: For the purposes of this section only, on duty is that period of time during working hours when an employee is at work or scheduled to be at work, or when an employee has the appearance of being at work, such as while in uniform or driving a city identified vehicle.

    (c)

    Political activities. No Coral Springs employee, while on duty, shall actively engage in political activity on behalf of any candidate for a seat on the Coral Springs City Commission. This prohibition shall not apply to passive political expression such as bumper stickers, lapel pins or buttons so long as these expressions do not interfere with the performance of the employee's official duties. However, there shall be no bumper stickers on city vehicles and no lapel pins or buttons on any type of city uniform.

    (d)

    Violations. Violations of the provisions of this section shall result in disciplinary action against the employee guilty of such violation.
