§ 11-30. Proper display and maintenance of flags.

  • (a)

    Purpose. To provide guidelines to the citizens of Coral Springs as to the proper display and maintenance of the flags of the United States of America, the State of Florida and the City of Coral Springs.

    (b)

    Definitions.

    (1)

    The words "flag," "standard," "color," "ensign," or "shield," as used in this section shall include the public presentation of any flag, standard, color or ensign made of any substance or represented or produced thereon, and of any size, evidently purporting to be such flag, standard, color, ensign or shield of the United States of America or the State of Florida.

    (2)

    The word "presentation" or "present" as used in this section shall mean the flying of any flag in public by means of a pole, building or otherwise.

    (c)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to present a flag of the United States of America, the State of Florida or the City of Coral Springs, when such flag is tattered, torn, defaced, soiled or mutilated.

    (d)

    This section shall not apply to individuals who are exercising their right to express an opinion or belief that is protected under the United States Constitution or the Florida Constitution.

    (e)

    The flag shall be flown in accordance with Title 4 United States Code, § 6 Time and Occasions for Display.

    (f)

    Penalty. Any person convicted of violating this section shall be punished by a fine of not more than fifty dollars ($50.00).
